How Search Works
At the heart of Smart Snippets are two complementary search approaches working together. Our system combines classic keyword search with modern semantic analysis that understands legal language. When you search, this means you will find relevant clauses even when they use different but related legal terminology.
Understanding Legal Documents
We have developed our system specifically for legal documents, basing our processing on their specific structure. As such, when syncing with your database, we split the documents based on natural breakpoints, as determined by both the actual content as well as the document styling structure.
Key Features
Automatic Document Analysis
When you add a new document to your database, we automatically identify the type of legal document, recognizes the parties involved, and determine the applicable jurisdiction (if it is mentioned within the doc). We also leverage our definition finding capabilities to extract defined terms and their definitions for future reference. All of this happens automatically. You do not need to manually tag or sort your documents.
Natural Search Experience
We have designed the search experience to feel natural and intuitive. You can post queries in plain language, and Smart Snippets understands what you are looking for. As you search, Smart Snippets suggests relevant filters to help you narrow down results more effectively. You can also paste an existing clause that you want to find variations of in your internal documents.
Progressive Filtering
Our filtering system adapts to your choices. As you select filters, the available
options update to reflect only relevant choices. You will see preview counts of
results for different filter combinations, making it easy to zero in on exactly what
you need. You can easily modify or remove filters, and the system remembers your filter
combinations for future use.
Working with Results
Organized for Legal Work
Search results are presented in a way that makes sense for legal work. Results are ranked by relevance, but always with surrounding context so you can understand how they fit into the larger document. You can easily trace results back to their source documents, opening the document in your filesystem with a single click.
Seamless Integration
Working with your search results is straightforward. You can insert clauses directly into your current document, save results in various formats, and add notes or tags for future reference. We are working on a feature that summarizes the differences between the results from the internal database and a selected clause in the open document.
